Feast day in San Pedro
Lanterns, marimba and our first full year of Spanish.
The recipe began as a question. We had enjoyed a meal at a neighbor's home and asked how they made it. The answer became an invitation to come back the following week and help prepare it together.
We arrived with ingredients and a notebook. By the end of the afternoon, the notebook had flour on it, the instructions included several helpful corrections, and we had learned that the recipe made sense most clearly when somebody showed us with their hands.
These afternoons are not separate from the life we came to share. They teach us how people welcome one another, how work is divided, and how much conversation can happen while a pot simmers. They also make space for laughter when our language does not quite keep up.
We are thankful for people who invite us into their routines. Please pray that our own home can become a place of similar generosity. We cannot offer perfect conversation or a familiar version of every meal, but we can keep an extra chair ready and welcome the people who come.
Thank you for reading, praying, and staying in touch with our family. A reply to this letter is always welcome. We would love to hear what ordinary life looks like where you are, and how we can pray for you in the month ahead.
For the coming week, we are keeping a simple prayer list near our kitchen table: the people we are learning from, the work ahead, and the families who have written to us. Your name may be on that list. We are grateful that this friendship reaches across the distance.
